Haven At Home

There is no better time to invest in self-care than now (technically, our options are limited but that’s okay). If there’s anything positive I can take out of this experience, it’s that self-care and mental health should have been my priority all along. Having so much time on my hands has made me realise how little effort I put into creating a feel-good space for myself in my own home.

A few months into quarantine and the boredom is really starting to kick in. There’s only so much we can do when time passes by ever so slowly and there isn’t much we can do to entertain ourselves, so here’s a few minor things that may lift your spirits during quarantine to make sure your at home life is a feel-good space.

Silk Pillow Case & Eye Mask

Falling asleep with an eye mask on will put your mind at ease and bring unprecedented serenity to your soul. I don't know what it is about an eye mask, but just having a physical barrier between you and the world while you're falling asleep somehow translates to your mind being at peace, leaving you with no room to dwell on the past or overthink the future. My go-to is the SLIP pure silk sleep mask that is 100% silk, inside and outside. The silk mask is made out of pure silk filler, internal liner silk and an elastic band covered with silk. If it's not clear already with all the times I've mentioned the word silk, silk is the way to go for a goodnights sleep.

Speaking of silk, what better to go hand-in-hand with the eye mask than a pillow case(you guessed it, also silk)? The benefits include anti aging, anti sleep crease and anti bed head. In comparison to other fabrics, silk will help retain the moisture of your skin by maintaining its hydration throughout the night.

SLIP Hair Essentials

Since we're already on the topic of silk, we might as well delve into the world of silk hair ties. Silk scrunchies minimize the tension and friction that your hair goes through when tied with a regular hair tie. It helps prevent hair breakage by being gentle on hair strands that are fine and damaged. You will only be able to see any actual results overtime, so patience patience patience.

Candles & Scents

Candles have proven time and time again to reduce anxiety, it's almost magic. When you're working from home, or working from the office and step inside your bedroom after a long day's work, a candle can be your saviour in your process of decompressing your soul from the worlds sorrows. Deciding which candle to purchase can be a whirlwind so it's all about trial and error. Some of my personal favourites include:

  • jo malone - blackberry and bay;

  • jo malone - peony and blush suede;

  • diptyque - baies;

  • diptyque - roses;

  • yankee candle - my serenity; and

  • yankee candle - soft blanket.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray

  • facial spray with aloe, cucumber & green tea;

  • facial spray with aloe, herbs and rosewater; and

  • facial spray with aloe, chamomile and lavender.

The Mario Badescu facial sprays are the best mid-day pick me ups, despite being stuck at home all day. The spray will not only revitalize your skin, but your soul as well (not guaranteed), after a long day of doing practically nothing at home we could all use a little pick me up, nothing better than a good old facial spray to re-energize your skin.

goop

Rose quartz rollers have gained a lot of popularity in the beauty industry within the last year. It actually works. Regular use of the roller improves blood circulation, elimination of wrinkles, reduction of puffiness. The actual rolling of the rose quartz roller on your face acts as a lymphatic drainage massage which further encourages oxygen penetration into the skin. Make sure to use it with your favourite serum.

Baths. Baths. And more baths. The goop bath salt is an emotional detox. With everything that's going on in the world right now, baths have been my ultimate form of winding down and taking a break from it all. As much as we'd like to escape the reality of the world we live in right now, its everywhere, our phones, TV and it also seems to be the main topic of conversation, not that I can blame anyone. But a little break from it all can go a long way for the maintenance of your mental health. Put on some good music, put the bath salts in and let go.
