8 Tips To Manage Hair Loss

I, as a 26 year old woman, have been suffering from some pretty extreme hair loss over the last 1 and a half years and I’m not really sure why (maybe it’s because I haven’t had a proper hair trim since the emergence of COVID), I wasn’t sure how it started or why it started but I was losing hair like crazy and I kept postponing the figuring out how to fix it part until further notice until I realized that if I kept doing that I’d be left with very little hair. Now, this is bearing in mind I’m an Arab girl (we are relatively hairier than your average), meaning I had a FULL head of hair which was THICK + VOLUME + SHINE. But somehow, midway through 2020 – the year of hell on earth – I found myself with dry hair, split ends and hair LOSSSSSSS. So, it was time for me to stop postponing the figuring it out part and get right to it before I was 56 with little to no hair.

First thing I did was get a haircut, no not a trim but a haircut because a trim was what I was supposed to do about a year ago. So, I chopped off all the dry strands and I could honestly already feel the difference, my ends felt silky smooth and my hair restored its shine, all this by a simple haircut. The question was, how do I maintain this? And here’s how:

Even though I am very forgetful of this and don’t always do it, I try to always (almost) comb through my hair before I wash it. Yes, I said comb and not brush because I realized that using a comb has significantly reduced my hair loss because the brush seemed to be pulling off all my hair.

Then I hop into the shower and thoroughly shampoo my hair using milk shake energizing blend shampoo. I make sure that I spend atleast 7-9 minutes covering every last hair, that may seem like a lot of time for a lot of you but I’d rather go through the trouble of spending more time shampooing my hair rather than ruining my fresh cut. Step 3 is using a conditioner, it actually works people!! Alongside the milk shake energizing blend shampoo, I have been using the milk shake energizing blend conditioner which I leave in my hair for a minimum of 15 mins. PS do not put any conditioner in your roots, just the ends. IT ACTUALLY WORKS.

Once I’m out of the shower if I feel like my hair is tangled from all that 7-9-minute shampooing, I very gently comb through it keeping in mind that its wet so I am as gentle as possible. I am guilty of using so much heat on my hair so even though I look curling my hair and having perfect curls, I have also tried to minimize this to about once a week and I let my hair air dry rather than drying it with so much heat through a blow dryer.

While my hair is damp, I first apply THICK.AGAIN by KEVIN.MURPHY on my scalp and I gently massage it. I let it sink into my scalp for about 1 minute then I add a generous amount of Rose Hair & Body Oil by OUAI from my mid-section all the way to my ends, without ever going anywhere near my scalp. Make sure you’re not pulling your hair down while your applying this, rather crunching it softly into your hair from the bottom up (mid-section only).

The best to last, I apply YOUNG.AGAIN by KEVIN.MURPHY to the mid-section down to the ends and I only put a minimal account because the consistency is thick. Then I simply let it air dry and this results in minimal hair loss, I can’t say that this process has completely eliminated my hair loss process but it has definitely greatly reduced it and I’ve got the pictures to prove it. I have been strictly doing this for one month only and I have seen great results, so I hope this will help you too. On days where I do not let my hair air dry, I dry my hair using the Dyson Hair Dryer (highly highly recommended).

BEFORE AND AFTER.

See below for more details of the above-mentioned products and good luck!

Rose Hair & Body Oil by OUAI

It’s a protective hair oil which also doubles as a perfume (how amazing) + hydrates dry ends. It’s made out of a fusion of rosehip oil, shea oil, and absinthium oil. The oil helps in restoring the hairs moisture, adds a dewy glow, fights frizz. It can be applied on wet or dry hair, personally I prefer wet hair straight out the shower because as my hair dries it’ll dry into shiny and soft locks.

THICK.AGAIN by KEVIN.MURPHY

If your hair isn’t as thick as you’d like it to be, you should give this product a try! It’s a leave in thickening treatment that’s designed for men (works just perfectly for me though) with fine or thinning hair. The ingredients help thicken hair and prevent breakage. Also, it works for all hair types!

I prefer to use it on damp hair as the first step of my hair care routine when I jump out of the shower, concentrating on the roots. Simply spray it on your scalp and I add in a 1-minute massage. Yes, it actually does work people and this is something I’ll continue using for as long as my hair needs it.

milkshake energizing blend shampoo & conditioner

This shampoo has transformed my hair and I noticed a big difference after only the first wash. In order to receive optimal results, I’d highly recommend using both the shampoo and conditioner together. Using the shampoo alone makes my hair a little dry but the shampoo adds the perfect amount of moisture, PS make sure not to apply the conditioner on your scalp, mid-section to ends only.

YOUNG.AGAIN by KEVIN.MURPHY

A weightless leave-in treatment oil for damaged and aging hair. It does wonders to my hair when I use it with all the above. I know the process may seem a little long and we may not always have the time to go through all these steps but I promise you it’s worth it. Haircare is just as important as skincare.

The leave-in treatment is infused with immortelle to help counteract oxidation and the aging process and delivers deep conditioning benefits that will leave your hair feeling soft and smooth with an overall boost to shine. It’s recommended that it’s used daily for me, I like to only use it on my hair wash days.
